Introduction to GIS with QGIS

Basic training in working with geographic information systems using the free QGIS software.

The Introduction to GIS with QGIS course provides a practical introduction to geographic information systems and spatial data analysis using QGIS. The training is designed for beginners who want to learn how to open, manage, visualise, edit and analyse spatial data in a clear and practical way.

Participants will learn the basic concepts of GIS, including vector and raster data, coordinate reference systems, attribute tables, map layers, styling, labels, georeferencing and map composition.

The course is based on practical exercises and real spatial datasets. By the end of the training, participants will be able to prepare simple GIS projects, create maps, edit spatial layers and export results for reports, presentations or further analysis.

The course will be delivered through practical computer-based sessions and will cover:

Introduction to GIS and spatial data
QGIS interface and project structure
Adding vector and raster layers
Working with shapefiles, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, CSV and raster files
Coordinate reference systems and map projections
Attribute tables and basic data queries
Layer styling and symbology
Labels and map annotation
Basic spatial selection and filtering
Creating and editing vector layers
Working with plugins
Using basemaps and online map services
Preparing map layouts
Exporting maps to PDF, PNG and other formats
