What was the project...

SeaBot Maritime designed and delivered a bespoke eLearning technical training programme for a marine robotics company, comprising 40+ modules built from scratch to cross-skill both new and experienced technicians across ROV, AUV and Survey Technology.

The programme was developed to support the clients lean-crewed vessel operations, where there are fewer specialist personnel available on each vessel. By developing technicians across multiple disciplines, the programme helps our client build a more flexible, multi-skilled workforce, making it easier to deploy appropriate personnel across its operations.

The programme consists of four interconnected training pathways:

1. Core Technology Modules

The foundation every technician completes first, covering electrical, hydraulics, communication theory, principles of motion, propulsion, water column properties, subsea acoustics, navigation and positioning, optical equipment, fault finding and HSE.

2. ROV Vocational Training

Tailored to the client’s ROV systems, covering system layout, power and communications networks, launch and recovery systems (LARS), topside control, Remote Operations Centre interfaces, pre- and post-launch checks, operational procedures, launch and recovery, ROV operation and adjustment, payloads and maintenance.

3. UAV/AUV Vocational Training

For technicians working with long-range autonomous underwater vehicles, covering key components, deployment, mission planning, payload systems, maintenance and responding to abnormal operations.

4. Survey Technician Training

For those supporting offshore survey operations, covering offshore survey fundamentals, survey platforms, sonar surveys, sensor classes, positioning systems, networking and best practice.

The training was built on the principle that competence must translate into practical application. Each module was structured around the tasks technicians perform on vessels, making the learning directly relevant to their work.

Modules are delivered digitally, allowing technicians to complete training around operational schedules, with progress tracked centrally by the client’s training team.

The programme provides a structured framework for developing and maintaining a cross-skilled technical workforce, supporting greater flexibility in personnel deployment across lean-crewed vessel operations.
