Working with USV Bathymetric Data in QGIS

Practical training in processing and analysing USV bathymetric data using QGIS.

The training focuses on the use of GIS software to process and visualise bathymetric datasets collected using unmanned surface vessels (USVs). The training is designed for users who wish to combine their knowledge of USV operation with the analysis of bathymetric data in GIS systems and transform the acquired data into clear, accurate and useful spatial products.

Participants will learn how to import, clean, visualise and analyse depth data from surveys conducted using USVs. The course covers the preparation of bathymetric point layers, depth interpolation, the creation of raster bathymetric surfaces, contour generation, map styling, profiles and final map layouts.

The course will be delivered through practical computer-based sessions and will cover:

Introduction to bathymetric data formats
Importing USV survey data into QGIS
Working with CSV, XYZ, GeoPackage, shapefile and raster data
Cleaning and checking bathymetric point data
Visualising depth points and survey tracks
Creating bathymetric raster surfaces
Generating contours and depth zones
Creating hillshade and shaded relief for bathymetry
Preparing depth profiles and cross-sections
Combining bathymetry with orthophotos, shoreline data and DEMs
Map styling for bathymetric products
Exporting GIS-ready results and final maps
Good practice in data organisation and documentation
