CASE STUDY  |  SBM Offshore

SBM Offshore, a leading provider of offshore platforms, aspires to become a knowledge-based business and sought to improve the training available to its workforce.

SeaBot Maritime designed and built a multi-lingual e-learning solution enabling SBM Offshore employees to access learning via the existing SBM Offshore's Learning Management System. Employee take-up and competence improved, at a fraction of previous costs.

SBM Offshore advised the objective to improve the learning and competencies of c.2600 specialist personnel who work onboard SBM Offshore’s FPSO vessels which are located in Guyana and Suriname.

The challenge was to transition existing instructor-led material, to an engaging eLearning solution, make this learning more easily accessed by crew, and effective so as to further support SBM Offshore’s excellent safety record.  Over 30 safety-critical modules were included, and e-learning was made available in both English and Brazilian Portuguese.

" SeaBot Maritime delivered what we set out to achieve – better, more convenient learning materials for our colleagues, delivered promptly and cost effectively "

SBM Offshore’s Christen Vagel said,

"SeaBot Maritime were selected for this project against some stiff competition.  We are delighted with the pace of the project, the outcome and impact that SeaBot Maritime’s eLearning solution has had.”

He continued “By using these types of transformative approaches to learning, our goal is to transition SBM Offshore to a knowledge-based company, where our people can absorb learning regularly, and maintain skills sets".

In the space of a few months, 1000’s of personnel accessed the new learning and in six months, 840 SBM Offshore crew members successfully completed SeaBot Maritime’s bespoke-designed eLearning training solution, with a 98% pass rate.

The objective to deliver high quality learning onboard has been met, with excellent feedback from learners.
